Research focus

PATHiDT integrates routine (digital) pathology, molecular pathology, and photonic technologies to improve (cancer) diagnosis and guide treatment.
Embedded within the department of Pathology at Antwerp University Hospital and the University of Antwerp Center for Oncologic Research, PATHiDT bridges research and daily clinical practice.
The group focuses on high-resolution tissue characterization, biomarker identification, and the development of diagnostic workflows that enable precise, data-driven patient care and support the precision oncology in clinical practice.

The research is built on three complementary domains:

  • Photonic technologies
Raman spectroscopy and related photonic technieques for real-time, label-free tissue analysis.
  • Molecular pathology
Biomarker-driven insights into tumor biology, and patient stratification.
  • Computational pathology
AI-driven analysis of digital pathology data for enhanced diagnostics.

  • Translational research starting from concrete clinical challenges, in close collaboration with the Antwerp University Hospital.
  • Pathology at the core of a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Uniquely positioned at the intersection of clinic, technology, and data.

PATHiDT PATHiDT operates an open-door policy and welcomes collaborations with academic, clinical, and industrial partners. Through - Antwerp Pathology Research and Trial Service, we provide expertise and infrastructure to support translational research and biomarker studies.
