About GhentCDH

Ghent Centre for Digital Humanities (GhentCDH) is an interdisciplinary core facility at Ghent University dedicated to advancing digitally enabled research in the arts and humanities. Bringing together expertise from fields ranging from archaeology and geography to history, linguistics, and cultural studies, GhentCDH supports research projects, teaching activities, and digital infrastructure development across the university and beyond.

The centre provides expertise throughout the entire research lifecycle, helping scholars, heritage professionals, and cultural organizations integrate digital methods into their work. Its core areas include digital heritage, geospatial analysis, digital text analysis, and collaborative databases. Through tailored support, training, and technological development, GhentCDH enables innovative approaches to studying, preserving, and sharing cultural heritage and humanities research.

GhentCDH is national coordinator for CLARIAH-VL (Common Lab Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities Flanders), the Flemish research infrastructure for the digital humanities. It serves as Flanders’ contribution to the European research infrastructures CLARIN (language and speech technology) and DARIAH (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities). Open science and open-source development are central to CLARIAH-VL and the centre’s mission.

Within the Heritage Practice Communities network, GhentCDH contributes expertise in digital heritage, participatory research, community engagement, and research infrastructure. By developing digital environments that connect researchers, heritage practitioners, and communities, the centre helps create new opportunities for collaborative knowledge production and the sustainable stewardship of cultural heritage in an increasingly digital world.
